Rotorua is known for its volcanoes, hot springs and sulfur smell but its surroundings will delight all travelers and especially the Sportotters.
Close to the city center is the Redwoods forest in which hikers, mountain bikers and riders can enjoy their favorite outdoor activity.
Indeed, there are remarkable hiking trails and mountain biking tracks or horseback riding trails through the beautiful old trees forest.



Is at the Mountain Bike Car Park where you will find mountain bike rental companies (count NZ $ 35 for 2 h rental). Once on your bike you will have lots of choices for your tracks. Indeed, many tracks run through the forest with evocative names: Challenge, Pigs ….



They are a perfect mix of everything we love in mountain biking: single muddy tracks. Some of them were even equipped with bumps and banked turns. In a word, a delight in the middle of an majestic nature.



If you have more time, you can also go hiking in the forest (go to the parking lot on the other side, the Visitor Center will give you all the necessary information). You can view the geysers of Te Puia for free from the hike free …



This amazing region of the North Island will dizzle you by the diversity of activities it offers: rafting, paragliding, skydiving, everything is there. Also you can go for a ride at the Blue Lake (15 minutes drive) swim and ride around the lake on the menu!



The pros:
– Well-prepared tracks for all levels (there is even a circuit for families)
– Mountain bike renters at the starting point.


– Hiking and mountain biking trails start from 2 different car parks so if you are in a group with people who are not into mountain biking, you will have to park in two different locations.
