Bogota, the Colombian capital is a must for the Sportrotters who visit the country.
It is the first destination when you reach the country by plane and has lots of outdoor activities in about one hour drive out of the city.
You can start by a climb at Monserrate, a climb that will take you up to 3152m. It is a nice but quite hard climb… a perfect detox after your Colombian food testing :)…
The hike is free and takes about two hours from La Candelaria (or one and half hour from the cable car departure) You can also choose to take the cable car.
Bogota is already at 2640 m altitude so go slowly if you aren’t used to climb.
At the top you can enjoy views over the city and the surrounding mountains with the Christ statue on one of the nearby mountains (and a small church).
In December, do not miss the Christmas illuminations!
Bring enough water because you will definitely need to hydrate and do not forget the sunscreen even if the weather is a bit overcast. If you like rock climbing, do not miss Suesca, Colombia’s Mecca for climbers, 2 hours from Bogota with numerous equipped routes for all levels.
As for accommodation, choose the Candelaria district in the inner city. We warmly recommend you Casu Hostal. Welcoming, clean, pleasant and very well located, this hostel is the perfect choice if you want to enjoy the capital’s lifestyle. The staff is always at your pampering!
Easy access and well indicated.
From the airport you can choose between the taxi (around 30.000 COP ~ 10 €) and public transportation (around 2000 COP per person)
Bogota has very complex transportation system and is hard to understand how to use the public transport. Also the traffic is slow and you need at least one hour to exit the city and be able to enjoy the nature around.
